Directions

Tuoro, on the Umbria-Tuscany border, is in the heart of Lake Trasimeno Regional Park, on the lake shore surrounded by green hills. This is where, in 217 BC Hannibal Carthaginian army defeated the Romans led by the Consul Flaminius. You can visit an exhibition showing features of the Battle of Trasimeno, and follow an historical and archaeological trail rounde notable places of the battle. In the Middle Ages Tuoro was on the border between lands ruled by the Lombards and those of the Byzantines, then later between the Papal States and the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.

Not much has changed since then on this hills rich in olive trees and sunflowers. A pleasent trip is to go by steamer to the islands of the lake. St. Francis of Assisi preached on Isola Maggiore at the beginning of the 13th century. Near the ferry-point is the Campo del Sole where you can see stone sculptures by local and foreigne artists. The beach, 1 Km from the village, has beach-umbrellas, deckchairs and pedaloes and you can go windsurfing or sailing. Also available in Tuoro are tennis, football, horse-riding and cycling.
